Believe

Hey everybody :) How's your holiday going on? What did Santa leave for you under theChristmas tree? :)

On teh 25th I played "The Polar Express" for my family and we all had a great time. This was the first time they were watching this movie. I saw it like 3 years ago when it was released, but I saw it in January I think - and then it was like a second Christmas for me :) Loved it back then, loved it now.

Here's something for all of you, call it a video-postcard if you wish. It's a song (Oscar nominated) from the soundtrack of "The Polar Express", written by Glen Ballard and Alan Silvestri, performed by Josh Groban

Children sleeping
snow is softly falling.
Dreams are calling
like bells in the distance.

We were dreamers not so long ago.
But one by one we all had to grow up.

When it seems the magic slipped away,
we find it all again on Christmas day...

Believe in what your heart is saying,
hear the melody that's playing.
There's no time to waste,
there's so much to celebrate.

Believe in what you feel inside,
And give your dreams the wings to fly.
You have everything you need,
If you just believe.

Trains move quickly to their journey's end.
Destinations are where we begin again.
Ships go sailing far across the sea.
Trusting starlight, to get where they need to be.

When it seems that we have lost our way,
we find ourselves again on Christmas day...

Believe in what your heart is saying,
hear the melody that's playing.
There's no time to waste,
there's so much to celebrate.

Believe in what you feel inside,
And give your dreams the wings to fly.
You have everything you need,
If you just believe.

If you just believe.
If you just believe.
If you just believe.
Just believe.
Just believe.

The Misfits - "The Forbidden Zone"

The Misfits are a punk/rock/heavy metal band well known for drawing inspiration from classic sci-fi and horror (B-)movies. You can notice that just looking at the title of their songs - "Day of the Dead", "Halloween II", "Lost in Space", "Pumpkinhead", "Return of the Fly"...

One of their tracks is a THX-1138 tribute (We Are 138), and I can even call it a tribute to my blog, hehe...

But my personal favourite is the PLANET OF THE APES-themed song "Forbidden Zone"

Enjoy!
------------------------

Some say that's where man began
On this wasted piece of land
Where evolution's yet to show
Forbidden zone

Blasting into outer space
The planet of the apes
Evolution's one hero

Crossing a plane into another dimension
A million years into the future
Crossing a path into another dimension
We, the unseen

Back on earth
It's all you'll read about
All the evidence destroyed

Maps and legends
Mark the firewalls
We, the lost abandoned saviors
Of the forbidden zone

Some say that's where man began
On this wasted piece of land
Where evolution's yet to show
Forbidden zone

Blasting into outer space
The planet of the apes
Evolution's one hero

And so he made it to another dimension
A million years into the future
He takes a path into another dimension
We, the unseen

Back on earth
It's all you'll read about
All the evidence destroyed

Maps and legends
Mark the firewalls
We, the lost abandoned saviors

Back on earth
It's all you'll read about
All the evidence destroyed

Maps and legends mark the firewalls
We, the lost abandoned saviors
We shall sustain the forbidden zone

The forbidden zone
The forbidden zone

Blasting into outer space
The planet of the apes
Evolution's one hero
Forbidden zone

The New Fanboys Trailer

Here's the NEW trailer :)

Haven't seen the old trailer?!

And a special Behind The Scenes look :)

It's one of those movies that are MY FAVOURITE even before I've seen them :)

The Force is strong with this one!!

Top 3 Christmas Movies, that are not-so-Christmas-movies

Christmas is coming, it's holiday season, and all I need now is some snow (hopefully we'll have some for 24 December) and a good Christmas movie.

When we're talking Christmas movies in everybody comes up with titles like "Home Alone", "Santa Clause", if you're into classics - "It's a Winderful Life", if you're into cartoons - various Christmas specials... But there are some movies that are (sort of) Christmas movies and you just don't associate them with Christmas.

And here's my Top 3 of such movies :)

3. BATMAN RETURNS

Tim Burton's gothic vision of Gotham City from the first movie is taken a step further. Covered with snow Gotham's even more grim, especially when you have sexy feline-fetish Selina Kyle slashing around with her whip-tale, an ominous circus ravaging the streets and helping grotesque Penguin biting off noses and kidnaping sleeping children to drown them in the icy waters of the city sewers

2. DIE HARD

"Now I have a machine gun. Ho ho ho."
Detective John McClane isn't exactly the kid-friendly family entertainment for the holidays ;)

1. GREMLINS

Some years before "Home Alone" Chris Columbus wrote "Gremlins" and with Steven Spielberg as an executive producer and Joe Dante on the director's chair you just can't get anything but a cult classic! Seems like Billy's got the best Christmas present ever, but don't be fooled by cute little Gizmo, this is not another E.T. and things are about to get out of control! "Gremlins" sure is disturbing for some parents, but I don't think that the kids really care ;) It's gonna be one hell of a Christms!

Movies #18

He's 78 and can kick your punk ass anytime.
He's got 4 Oscar-s and hopefully like he's gonna get a 5th one soon.
He's THE MAN!

Clint Eastwood is back in front of the camera for the first time since his 2004 Best Picture Academy Award winner "Million Dollar Baby".

He stars and directs "GRAN TORINO" (and also contributes with some music)

His character, Walt Kowalsky, is a grumpy old Koera vet. The movie opens with the funeral of his wife, where you pretty much get the picture - he's got two out-of-touch sons, and some disrespectful grandchildren, who are just waiting for him to kick the bucket to get their hands on his `72 Gran Torino that's resting in his garage. Having nobody but his dog, Walt spends his bitter days drinking beer on the porch, surrounded by Asian neighbours who look at him like he doesn't belong. Torn between his anger at the world and everybody in it and his inner demons - memories from the War and regrets about not being close with his sons Walt spits and snarls around, insults his neighbours and the local priest and the last thing you can call him is "politically correct". And he ain't doin' no apologizin'! He's the old timer, the outsider, the tough one and the stubborn one - something Clint Eastwood is surely familiar with. You can taste that Man With No Name attitude we all know and love in his movies.

One night the neighbours' kid tries to steal his Gran Torino and this triggers a chain of event that will bring back Dirty Harry from his retirement. When he points his M-1 rifle at the boy Walt Kowalsky can hardly imagine that soon he will be a father figure and a role model for him.

It's not just action or just drama or just comedy. It's one of those stories you can't really fit in the usual categories. It's a Clint Eastwood movie and it's what he does best - simple storytelling about what does it mean to be a real man. It's about growing up, it's about walking tall, it's about making a stand, and about doing what you have to do.

I can't come up with anything I'd like to criticize about this movie. If you want to know more about the story you go to IMDb or Wikipedia

I'd just advise you to watch it, cause it's a pure cinematic gem.

Father and Daughter

Father and Daughter is a 2000 Dutch animated short film, made by Michaël Dudok De Wit. It won the 2000 Academy Award for Animated Short Film.

Which Action Hero Are You?

Obi-Wan Kenobi (Star Wars)
You are smart and kind. You aren't mean to anyone and always think ahead. You don't like war but you aren't a hippie. You only use violence in defence and only rarely hurt people. You are worried about your friends and you are very honerable and obey your master.

Now, usually I don't care about the tons of silly Facebook aplications and I don't join those tons of causes (cause they're not changing anything anyway). But I was tempted to take this quiz and I was pleased with the result :))

John Williams Concert @ The Cinemagic Film Fest in Plock, Poland

During my last month in Poland I had a terrific time. Actually I had a terrific time all the time, and I have a lot off stuff to tell AND show... It's been months since then, but I have like 5 GB of photos from all the places (and all the parties) I've been to.

OK, I have to start from somewhere, and this is a good start :)

21.06.2008 - Just one week before I went back to Bulgaria. I was a bit disappointed, cause I couldn't visit the Zoo in Poznan. Ania and Ania (Maniek) decided to cheer me up and took me to Plock, where they have a really great Zoo. Not something huge, but really a cosy one and... Geez, instead of telling you about it I should just post some of the photos I made there. But that's another story :)

On our way back from the Zoo we decided to take a walk around the town and check out the sightseeings. Suddenly I hear a familiar tune... Is it possible?! As the zoo and the company of my friends itself wasn't enough, combined with the pleasant trip and the sunny weather I felt just wonderful and now...The JURASSIC PARK THEME is playing somewhere down the street!!

Imagine how happy I was when we found out that there's a FILM FESTIVAL going on in Plock - CINEMAGIC, and just today there's a CONCERT of FILM MUSIC by non other than the great JOHN WILLIAMS!!! I could hardly believe it, it was just too good to be true! Damn, even now I can hardly believe it :) One of the best days ever!

They were about to play music from "Star Wars", "Jurassic Park" and "Harry Potter". I was like "Thank you, God! THANK YOOOU!!!"

The symphonic orchestra were doing some rehearsals:

We had a long walk around the picturesque town, we ate some pizza, made some more photos... and came back for the concert!!

Thank you Anias, you are the best!! :)
*MUAHH!*

Music #27

Some days ago while I was talking about "Full Throttle" I mentioned The Gone Jackals. Here's one of their songs from the album "Bone to Pick".

The Gone Jackals - We Want Our Brothers Back

Too many believe
in some "master plan"
'cause it's hard to accept
what's not shapen by hand.
But here, under the sun,
where events can't be undone;
once superstition's spent -
You gotta know,
we want our brothers back.
The hurt came down
from the clear blue sky.
The sands of time
went rushing by.
It came as a shock,
we'd shut our eyes.
Is this all that's left,
just a slow good-bye?

The curators frown
and they wax abstract.
But, man, if you've found love
what could matter more than that?

It's a crime and a shame (selfish and vain)
to try to justify this pain.
I guess they'll think what they will -
But before the dawn
they'll want their brothers back.

The Web #22

I know about this site, I've used this site and downloaded stuff from there, so I feel like it's time to post something about it...

http://www.archive.org/

Here you can get all sorts of things for free and perfectly legal. I'm t alking movies, music, games, books, software... Abandoned and public domain stuff... Depends on your interests, this site has to offer really a lot.

Now, let me show you...

http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=%28collection%3ASciFi_Horror%20OR%20mediatype%3ASciFi_Horror%29%20AND%20-mediatype%3Acollection&sort=-avg_rating%3B-num_reviews

Sci-Fi and Horror movies :)
If you're a fan you'll find here a great number of Roger Corman flicks, including Francis Ford Coppola's "Dementia 13". You have classics like George Romero's "Night of the Living Dead", you have some Vincent Price movies, including "The Last Man on Earth" (hell, you even have "The Last Woman on Earth"), you have the original Sweeny Todd (yup, in case you didn't know Tim Burton's movie is a remake)...
And I want to pay special attention on "Horror Express" starring Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. Some years ago I waited like 3 weeks to get it downloaded on eMule, and now they have it here for direct download!!

They have cartoons too, Charlie Chaplin stuff, you name it...

So, search and enjoy :)

Movies #17

The Tale of How

I'm quite impressed by these guys. Check out their website - http://theblackheartgang.com/

Nocturna - Trailer

Trailer for Spainish animated film "Nocturna". Unfortunately the distribution of the Europaen animation is not always an easy task, unlike the big Hollywood studi projects, so I still haven't seen this one. And I WANT TO!

Watch this creepy short!
Written and directed by Robert Morgan

Fear(s) of the Dark - Trailer

OK, before I call it a night, another trailer to the French animated anthology film, art directed by Etienne Robial. It was recently released in the States and UK, hopefully I'll get my hands on it.

DAYO - Trailer

This is the full cinema trailer of the 1st fully-digital animated feature film of the Philippines, DAYO, an official entry for the 34th Metro Manila Film Festival. Screening starts December 25, 2008 in selected theaters nationwide. Produced by CuttingEdge Productions, directed by Robert Quilao.

A new animated movie is always welcome :)

Roadside Romeo - Trailer

Roadside Romeo - A full length animated movie from Yashraj Films in association with Disney, featuring voices of Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Javed Jaffri, directed by Jugal Hansraj. Reminds me of the good old classic "Oliver and Company", but this time it's in 3D and instead of Dickens they do a Shakespeare variation. Now, that's something you don't see every day coming out of Bollywood! I'm curious to see the result.

Olympics 2008 Monkey Movie - BBC Sport

A neat animated short I found browsing on YouTube :)

Info:
The Olympics 08.08.08 http://www.bbc.co.uk/monkeyolympics
BBC Sport's marketing campaign and titles for the forthcoming Olympic Games are based upon the traditional Chinese folklore 'Journey to the West'. The animation and music were specially produced by Jamie Hewlett and Damon Albarn.

So that's why it's so Gorillaz Style!! Hey, and they also released a Chinese remix album, so I guess they were really on the roll! ^__^

Outlander (2009) HD Trailer 2

"During the reign of the Vikings, Kainan (Jim Caviezel), a man from a far-off world, crash lands on Earth, bringing with him an alien predator known as the Moorwen. Though both man and monster are seeking revenge for violence committed against them, Kainan leads the alliance to kill the Moorwen by fusing his advanced technology with the Viking's Iron Age weaponry."

Seems like I could kill some time with this flick when it's out.

Ink Heart - Trailer

After "The Golden Compass" and "The Spiderwick Chronicles" failed to entertain, let alone impress me, I'm afraid that yet another book adaptation with a fancy trailer may turn out to be a disappointment... Brendan Fraser just makes this feeling stronger.

Call me naive, but I still have some hopes that this movie will be good!

Azur and Asmar - Trailer

Задава се ново френсо анимационно филмче от режисьора на Кирику! :)

"Here there be tygers"

Russian sci-fi animations. Based on Ray Bradbury's short story "Here there be tygers"

Сражение

Beautiful Solviet animated short based on Stephen King's story.

Gods of the Green Planet - Pilot (2009)

The Russian animation school has always been one of the best. In recent years they've done some really neat features, but they sticked to good old handdrwan 2D most of the time (with some CGI elements). But this one is 3D and looks great if you ask me.

It always seems impossible until it's done

Again we had some topics to choose from and write an essay for some class we have at the Uni. Probably all the topics are quotes by some famous guys. We used to do something similar back in high school (Hey yo, miss Grudeva!). Well, this is the topic I chose, and this is the essay I wrote...

It always seems impossible until it's done

Sunday afternoon. It seems impossible for me to write an essay on such a topic right now, and yet at the end, after some 215 more words it will be done.

Writing an essay is a process. First of all you should have at least a vague idea what you are going to write about, then plan what arguments and examples you are going to use, and then using your more or less (un)limited vocabulary and grammar skills you compose a text which hopefully will be good enough to please the teacher who has asked you to do the whole thing, putting you through so much misery.

If you go back to the beginning of this 5-line sentence (I’m referring to the second sentence from the second paragraph) you’ll remember that first of all you need at least a vague idea. Since I have no idea at all (let alone a vague one) even after I spent a considerable amount of time on trying to suck some idea out of my fingers, writing this essay seems quite impossible. But for the sake of having homework here I am, pouring down my stream of consciousness, which will no doubt give many readers a hemorrhage (I checked this one in the dictionary) in the brain, nausea or at least a horrible headache which will last for approximately tree weeks.

But fear not, the essay is almost over, for I have clicked “Word Count” from the Tools Menu and fortunately it seems that my task is almost completed. The word count is increasing more and more as I type!! Fascinating, isn’t it?

So here it is - what seemed to be impossible is now done! My essay is complete!

Top 3 video games I want to see on a big screen

OK, so I did top 3 about comic books, now it's time for the video games. The rules - the games shouldn't have any adaptation on screen - no cartoons, no movies, no nothing. And the games should not be based on comics or something else, cause otherwise they should be in the other Top 3 (like "Cadillacs and Dinosaurs"). And I have to tell you that I can't really rate teh games and these number 1,2 and 3 are JUST numbers, I can't say which one I like better and which is the best for me...

3. Syberia

Benoit Sokal's "Syberia" is an interactive movie by itself, with complex characters, a lovely visual style and soundtrack that adds a great deal to the unique atmosphere of the game.

2. Full Throttle

Back in the good old days Lucas Arts did some really amazing not-Star-Wars-related stuff, most of them adventure games based on the SCUMM engine. And they surely have plenty of stuff I wanna see like animated movies or motion pictures, they've got Maniac Mansion and Day of the Tentacle, Zak McKracken, Monkey Island... But they are more cartoonish and I think that they'll be appreciated mostly by the fans. And "Full Throttle" is something that really ROCKS, literally! The beautiful animation, biker gangs in a postapocalyptic future, born-to-be-wild storyline about freedom, brotherhood, honor and justice and the superb heavy sound of The Gone Jackals who did the songs for the game...

Some time ago I even downloaded a Full Throttle movie, edited from the cut scenes of the game and some gameplay footage! You can still get it from here I think - http://www.gamershell.com/news_27175.html

1. DUKE NUKEM

Alien bastards come to Earth, steal our chicks and do some more nasty things, and the most kick-ass game character ever is the one to make them sorry for messing with our planet and quote some B-movie one-liners! A huge variety of huge guns, plenty of ugly mutants, monsters, aliens and plenty of other things to shoot at, blow up, kick, blast, destroy, anihilate, shrink and step on, half-naked chicks, naked chicks... This game is just BITCHIN' GREAT!!

And after "Duke Nukem: The Movie" it will be "Serious Sam: The Movie", starring The Rock as Sam "Serious" Stone, and then we'll do a crossover and we'll have "Duke Nukem & Serious Sam" with cameo appearance the guy from "Doom", Freeman from "Half Life", Lara Croft and the guy from Castle Wolfenstein... Hell yeah!

Quotes #23

"If you dream the proper dreams, and share the myths with people, they will want to grow up to be like you."

Ray Bradbury

The Aquabats! - Awsome Forces

I was just relaxing here, listening to some cheerful ska by the Aquabats and decided to post some of their songs here :)
So today it is Awesome Forces! mashed up with some footage from the Edd Wood's "Plan 9 from Outer Space" (and this movie ain't THAT bad, no matter what they say!)

Well have you seen us?
We summon awesome forces
We are the ones that myths and legends talk about
We're so far beyond your definitions
We cannot die, we will not be broken

We have been chosen, the lone protectors
To rescue those who can't survive
The onslaught of those Trojan horses
We cannot die, we will not be broken
No, no, no
No way
No, no, no
Listen up kids

So many years, so many broken mirrors
And yet the truth remains so clear
If you do not like us, you might have to fight us
We cannot die, no way

We are your average ordinary superhuman
Punishers of evil, rock and roll band
And we've been designated to save this crazy world
We cannot die, for this is our destiny
Come on now

Here we are now, five lone men
Standing on the edge of disaster
Holding the sword of justice
And watch the hammer fall on all those who oppose us
For we are they, and they are we, the Aquabats
We cannot die, no way

We are your average ordinary superhuman
Punishers of evil, rock and roll band
And we've been designated to save this crazy world
And we must win, for this is our destiny
This is our destiny
This is our destiny
